Roman shades are cool, literally.  This is because they help block out the hot summer sun and damaging UV rays, providing shade to an otherwise sunny room. In the winter months, Roman shades have an insulating effect by trapping a layer of air between the window and the shade, reducing heat loss and keeping the warmth inside.
