Pillow with Triangle Grommets

Create a decorative pillow using our plastic triangle grommets.

Materials and Supplies

• Basic sewing supplies; scissors, needle and thread, yardstick, sewing machine
• Fabric for front and back (1/2 yard)
• Fabric for straps and behind grommets (1/2 yard)
• Plastic triangle grommets size GPT/15 (6 sets)
• One 18” x 18” pillow form

Cutting

• Cut two pieces of fabric for front and back 18” x 18”
• Cut one piece contrasting fabric 18” x 18” and six pieces for the bands 4” x 7”

Step-By-Step

1. On the fabric piece cut for the pillow front, mark the holes for the grommet 3” from the edge at the top, bottom and center on one side using the template provided in the grommet instructions.(Photo 1)

2. Cut out the circles on one side and then fold the fabric in half to mark the other side and cut out the holes.(Photo 2)

3. Separate the grommet front and back pieces by
inserting a small flat head screw drive into the slot
on the side of the grommet and twist to pry apart.
Place a grommet front into one of the holes and then
snap the grommet back into place. When setting the
grommets line up one of the flat, long sides of the
triangle parallel with the side of the pillow. Continue
setting all six grommets into the pillow front.(Photo 3)

4. Place the pillow front over the contrast fabric and pin edges together.(Photo 4)

5. Sew together the edges of the 4” x 7” bands using a ½” seam allowance. Turn bands right sides out and press with an iron with the seam centered on one side.(Photo 5)

6. Slip the bands through each grommet with the seam facing down and pin together at the pillow edge. Sew around the outside edge to secure the front, contrast fabric and bands in place.(Photo 6)

7. Place pillow front and back pieces face to face and pin together. Sew around the edges using a ½” seam allowance and leaving an opening on one end. Turn right sides out and insert the pillow form. Close the opening by hand sewing using a matching thread.(Photo 7)
